Bemused

Young Sydney was treated to his first hair cut yesterday, in fact the groomer and us believe it could be his first ever hair cut with the state his coat was in. He looks like a different dog and is about half the size he looked before in his fluffy but matted coat.

Sydney was a little less then amused by the whole procedure and spent most of the evening last night sulking.

Despite his protests he does have to feel better free of all that matted old hair and this morning he was back to his usual springy self. He still had a somewhat bemused look on his face mind you.

Now we just have to work on keeping that coat in good condition so that he doesn't have to be cut back quite so far next time. Oh and his tail isn't that fluffy, he must have been wagging it when I took the picture!

  1. Lovely dog, Keep brushing and combing him, helps if he will let you use the vacuum on him and this really cleans well. Not sure what parasite treatment you are using, but get one and check for ticks, if found only remove with special tool.
Keep and eye on his nails and make sure they do not get too long.
Lovely boat dog, just the right size. Take care he does not get pinched.

  2. He is terrified of the vacuum cleaner. No chance of getting that anywhere near him!

He has some treatments from the vets for fleas, worms, lice and other parasites. Can't remember what it is called but there is a solution to stick on the back of his neck every month and a bone shaped "treat" that he is to eat every three months.

We have been checking him for ticks on a regular basis as he loves charging around and bouncing about in long grass.

He is now of course chipped and registered to ourselves but I guess there is only so much you can do regards him being stolen!

  3. Good grief. he doesn't look like the same dog at all. I bet he will feel far more comfortable though. Has the smell gone with the matted coat?

  4. The smell had gone already with plenty of baths and showers.

We certainly don't want his coat this short as a long term solution. But it did need to come off and start again.

Hopefully he should look a bit more respectable by the time we head to the Broads!
