Pretty much as we predicted, one by one of our fellow travellers to London next year has dropped out. Leaving just us and Naughty-Cal as the only boat heading onto the Thames.
In a way this makes life easier for us. We only have to do our planning now and don't have to find places to lift in and out for the larger boats.
With this in mind we can now spend longer in the centre of London, spending six nights in St Katherines Dock rather then the previous three we had planned. Conversely this won't actually cost us any more money for moorings as the weekly berthing fee is very reasonable when compared to the daily berthing rate.
On our last full day we will then leave St Kats and head further downstream and through the tidal barrier to Gallions Point Marina where they have a nice slipway facility and await picking up on the trailer ready to take back to Lincoln again. Fare easier for us then having to trek right down the estuary and down the Medway to get the larger boats craned out.
I wondered why you were planning to be lifted out on the Medway, with that being the wrong side of the Thames for your journey back to Burton Waters. Do you have an alternative to Gallions Point as they are in a legal dispute with the Greater London Authority over eviction. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/marina-owner-plans-court-battle-with-sadiq-khan-over-order-to-leave-site-a3376881.html
ReplyDeleteOh. Better find a Plan B just in case!
DeleteWe're planning the Thames next summer, doubt we'll join you out to the barrier though! Pip and Mick
ReplyDeleteWe will be there the last week in July and the first week in August. The plan is to get dropped in at Lechlade and work our way downstream into London.
DeleteOur plan for next summer is the Thames and the K&A. If we're on the Thames then we'll keep an eye out for you.
DeleteWe will keep an eye out for you as well.
DeleteSee you on the Thames then!
ReplyDeleteYes we will be keeping a good look out for you also. It will be nice to meet up at last. We have followed your blog for a long while.
