In a bid to save our own sanity last night we decided to head out to The Strines Inn in Derbyshire for dinner after work. We decided that this was a better option then listening to Sydney barking and growling at all of the little darlings knocking on the door in the name of trick or treating.
As it happens it was a great choice as we had a lovely meal in front of the open fire. Liam chose the mixed grill which and I had a giant Yorkshire pudding filled to the brim with vegetables, roast potatoes and beef with gravy. All cooked to perfection. We have yet to have a bad meal at this lovely old pub.
By the time we arrived home the little darlings had all gone home and we could enjoy the rest of our evening on the sofa watching rubbish TV before heading to bed fairly early ready for an early start this morning.
Same problem here with two westies. Can hardly wait for Saturday and Monday!
ReplyDeleteSyd doesn't seem too bad with fireworks. There have been the odd few go off in close proximity and he doesn't seem to be bothered by them.
ReplyDeleteIt is people knocking on the door that send him crazy. Thankfully we don't usually get that many!
Bless Sydney, he is only trying to guard his humans, and the home that he is grateful for. I can accept that it would drive you nuts if you had lots of trick or treaters though. Perhaps trick or treating is more common in your neck of the woods, I'm glad to say that nobody at all knocked on our door.
ReplyDeleteLast year they were pretty much non stop from when we got in at 6pm until about 8.30pm. Hence our decision to go out.
ReplyDeleteHe is quite the little guard dog and doesn't like it if anyone goes near the house or the boat. Now it has got dark he also growls if anyone approaches us as we are walking him.
Not sure he would actually do anything about it if someone entered the house or the boat though!
Sydney probably wouldn't need to do anything to stop a burglary. I grew up next to a corner newsagent's. One night our dog woke Dad up by growling, and when he went downstairs to see what was upsetting her, she went to the back door and barked. The next day we found out that there had been an attempted break in to the back of the shop, and we reckoned that Tamsie had put the burglars off.
ReplyDeleteMonty is the same on the boat and at home - very protective and also growls at people when it is dark. We did have trick and treaters which we could hardly ignore as I took two grandchildren out and about for a short time. They are pretty good round here - if there are no decorations and/or lights they don't call. As soon as our stock of sweets ran out we removed the pumpkins, shut the door, killed the front lights and peace reigned. I wish I could say that Monty was okay with fireworks - this weekend and Monday will be a real trial for him.
ReplyDeleteI guess we will find out for sure this weekend how good Syd is with fireworks but the signs so far are that he will be fine.
ReplyDeleteHmm. Perhaps we spoke too soon!
ReplyDeleteHe was terrified of the huge firework display at one of the pubs at the marina tonight.
We were on the boat and he has sat shaking between us on the sofa for a good half hour after the show finished.
Making new plans for tomorrow to try and avoid the worst of the fireworks.
