Undettered by the weather and looking for this to make us think of warmer times and summer months, we decided yesterday to fill in the forms for our EA Thames Visitors Licence and get them sent off by email to the boat licencing team in Rotherham.
There is still plenty of time before we go but with the dates now set we thought we would sort out the paperwork now which makes one less job to sort out nearer the time.
This will go down as the most expensive visitors licence we have bought to date. We thought this would be on the Caledonian Canal last summer but we then found out when we got there that our CRT licence covered us for the short stay which was a bonus. Unfortunately this year that won't be the case. It will cost us £36.50 for a seven day licence but then as we are actually staying on the non tidal river for eight days it will cost us an additional £22 for the one day. £58.50 for eight days. That's £7.31 a day. By far the most expensive licence we have bought. It had better be worth it.
You're lucky you are only short. We paid around £70 year before last for a week on the Thames. Pip
ReplyDeleteTheir rates do seem very steep for visiting boats when compared to other navigation authorities.
ReplyDeleteWe paid £127 last year (59' narrowboat) as we needed a longer licence to allow us to go down the Wey and then back on the Thames. This year we have a Gold Licence as we are going on other EA waters, so will probably come home via the Thames just to make the most of it! Jennie
ReplyDeleteDoesn't work out for us to have a gold licence as we have a rivers only CRT licence and we will only be on AS waters for 8 days this year.
ReplyDeleteIt just seems that the EA are trying to discourage visitors with their high visitor licence fees.
