Wining and Dining

It isn’t very often we get the chance to entertain guests at home but last night we had the pleasure of entertaining Liam’s mum and her husband for the first time in a long while.

As usual with these things we were rushing around at the last minute cleaning the house and preparing dinner but it all came together in the end and not a couple of minutes before they knocked on the door we had everything prepared and ready to go. Talk about cutting it fine.

We opted for the easy choice for dinner, a homemade lasagne with homemade garlic bread and a seasonal side salad with mint and mustard dressing. Most of which could be prepared in advance to cut down on preparation work during the evening. Simple food needn’t mean boring food however and as all of the latest were cleared I expect everyone enjoyed the evening’s offerings. They didn’t even notice I had use Quorn mince in the lasagne instead of the usual steak mince!

For desert a homemade apple tart made with apples from our garden and some piping hot fresh custard finished off the meal just nicely.

The evening was finished off with a couple of drinks and some lively chatter before unfortunately our guests had to leave as they had to be up early this morning for work. We have however promised that it won’t be so long before we do this again.
