Misty Sunday

It's a misty and murky Sunday in Sheffield which started with a smattering of snow. The temperatures are though on the rise and the snow is now melting nicely.

We have been for a lovely drive around the local area calling in at Our Cow Molly for a stock of ice cream and milk and then onto The Strines Inn for a couple of drinks.

Staying Home

We have decided it is for the best to stay at home this weekend rather then travel to Lincoln. We know that the boat is fine.

Surprisingly the marina is not frozen over. A friend posted a picture of his boat Rocky Rowd this morning and it is in liquid water!

Keep On Planning

Undettered by the weather and looking for this to make us think of warmer times and summer months, we decided yesterday to fill in the forms for our EA Thames Visitors Licence and get them sent off by email to the boat licencing team in Rotherham. 

There is still plenty of time before we go but with the dates now set we thought we would sort out the paperwork now which makes one less job to sort out nearer the time.

This will go down as the most expensive visitors licence we have bought to date. We thought this would be on the Caledonian Canal last summer but we then found out when we got there that our CRT licence covered us for the short stay which was a bonus. Unfortunately this year that won't be the case. It will cost us £36.50 for a seven day licence but then as we are actually staying on the non tidal river for eight days it will cost us an additional £22 for the one day. £58.50 for eight days. That's £7.31 a day. By far the most expensive licence we have bought. It had better be worth it.

Day Two

It is Day two of the big freeze for us here in Sheffield. We have both got to work again safely although even some of the main roads were a bit hairy this morning. To be fair to Sheffield council they do seem to be making a big effort to keep the city moving, we have seen a fair variety of vehicles spreading salt and ploughing today. 

We made the decision this morning that we will not be going to the boat this weekend. We know that she is safe and it just isn't worth the risk of driving over there so we will enjoy another weekend at home.

Dodging The White Stuff

We made it to work safely this morning through the blizzard like snow but we are now heading back home having taken half a day.

It is not good around Sheffield. We have taken a break for lunch before starting the last leg home!

Paying Out

It was an expensive boaty day yesterday despite us both being back in Sheffield at work. Time had come around to renew the insurance, renew the Canal and Rivers Trust Licence and renew our moorings agreement. All at once!

Now none of these items on their own are overly expensive, our 12 months rivers only licence is only £340 for example. But when they all come together it becomes a bit of a bitter pill to swallow!

Needless to say it will all be forgotten about the next time we get a sunny day and we are out on the river. But for now in a snowy Sheffield the wallet is sulking a little.

A Nice Winter Weekend

We have enjoyed what has proven to be a great winters weekend on the water. The weather was perfect for the time of year, crisp blue skies, cold temperatures and light winds. What could be better for the time of year?
